Technology:

  • What's special about Sarantel's PowerHelix? Filtering Antenna Technology?
Sarantel antennas don't detune when near people or objects.
Sarantel antennas combine form (loop topology), materials (high dielectric ceramic), and structure (balance) to very tightly constrain the antenna's near field. As a result, the antenna is highly tolerant to the close proximity of people, other components and other antennas. System designers like these features as the antenna is not easily detuned, yielding a predictable, repeatable and reliable response in all application circumstances.

  • Sarantel antennas are easy to embed.
Because they're balanced and don't interact with other components, Sarantel antennas are the easiest antennas to embed in a device. Conventional antennas use the entire device to create their actual electrical resonating size; as a result, small changes to the device mean large changes to the antenna. Sarantel antennas are isolated from the device, so changes to the device don't impact the antenna at all. RF engineers can treat the antenna as a standard component rather than an ongoing design headache!

  • Sarantel GeoHelixR GPS antennas are omni-directional.
Sarantel's GeoHelixR GPS antennas form a near-ideal Euclidean cardioid pattern, providing the broadest possible beamwidth. This is especially important for satellite reception near the horizon. The GeoHelix maintains this pattern even when near other objects due to its unique near field properties. Regardless of the orientation of the device, signal integrity is maintained.

  • Sarantel antennas are smallest GPS antenna with best performance.
Sarantel antennas use high dielectric materials to shrink the antenna to the smallest possible size, while maintaining high application efficiency. Balanced antennas do not require a ground plane to work, so they don't resonate against the entire device. Theoretically, the entire device can be made as small as the antenna without sacrificing efficiency.

  • Sarantel antennas act as their own filters.
Sarantel antennas are designed with a very sharp filtering response. The GeoHelixR GPS antenna attenuates signals in common GSM and ISM bands by 25-30dB, and has a 3dB fractional bandwidth of only 1.25%. Many applications do not require additional filtering between the antenna and receiver.

  • Sarantel antennas reject common mode noise.
Today's converged wireless devices are a maelstrom of RF noise. This makes it particularly difficult to implement a receiver with the sensitivity requirements of GPS. Because they're balanced, Sarantel antennas provide no conductive path between the ground plane of the receiver and the antenna, and thus prevent common mode noise from entering the receiver through the antenna path.

GPS Navigator Handheld PDA S911 GOLF - Geohelix antenna

SPK Electronics Co., Ltd. --
The only Distributor of Sarantel ( Manufacturer) GPS, Radio Geohelix Antenna in Taiwan, China and Hong Kong.

  1. PDAs / PNDs
GPS is the latest enhancement to the current generation of PDAs and smart phones. The Sarantel GeoHelix? GPS antenna has been used in a range of PDAs and PNDs (Portable Navigation Devices) like Royaltek's Empus and TomTom's Mobile 5 GPS Receiver.
Handheld GPS products need to offer reliable reception while being used near humans. While conventional antennas de-tune and become inefficient when they come in contact with RF-absorbing materials like the user's hand or head, GeoHelix? GPS antennas stay on frequency regardless of how they are used.
GPS-enabled PDAs and PNDs with a Sarantel antenna also work in random orientations because of the antenna's omni-directional capability. This removes the burden on users to orient the device in order to achieve reliable performance. Sarantel antennas boost the performance of PDAs and PNDs and provide users with reliable GPS reception in the city, on the road, in the forest - or wherever they go!

  2. Telematics :
The science of marrying mobile phone communications and information from global positioning satellites to monitor a truck or van on the move has become known as vehicle telematics.

    David Blackwell
    Financial Times, 12 May 2003

Automobile navigation has become a standard offering among many vehicle brands. Businesses achieve great efficiencies in knowing where their mobile assets are and having the ability to deploy them rapidly. GPS has become an indispensable tool of a mobile workforce.
Sarantel's GPS antennas permit greater flexibility in integrating GPS functionality into the dashboard of a vehicle and help to significantly reduce the cost of integration. Patch antennas must be housed and mounted on the outside of the car.
Sarantel's GPS antenna can be put inside the car, in the boot, under the seat, or beneath the dashboard, saving cost in materials and installation. The GeoHelix? antenna's omni-directional pattern ensures good performance in obscured environments.

  3. Sports and Games :
The latest performance enhancer in sport and games is GPS. Sports men and women are using GPS enabled devices to track their pace, speed and distance across land, whilst urban gamers are using GPS handheld consoles to play games across our towns and cities.
GeoHelix? GPS antennas use Sarantel's proven PowerHelix? technology and offer significant benefits over patch antennas in handheld consoles and devices with GPS. Achieving GPS accuracy has been a stumbling block to the uptake of urban gaming and its serious use as a performance enhancer in sports. High buildings can block GPS signals from satellites, creating positioning shadows, which can affect location accuracy.
Sarantel GPS antennas offer unparalleled performance in unstable environments such as urban canyons and heavily wooded areas because the antenna's circular polarisation pattern maximises GPS signals.
Handheld consoles and devices with a Sarantel antenna do not require a clear view of the sky for robust GPS reception because of the antenna's omni-directional capability. This eliminates the need for gamers and sports lovers to orient their GPS console or device in order to achieve reliable performance, enabling them to focus on their game.
Sarantel's GPS antennas can be embedded into handheld devices creating a more robust product for sports lovers and the growing community of gamers who prefer playing on the streets rather than on their sofas.

  4. Emergency Devices and Panic Buttons :
A plethora of GPS enabled emergency devices are entering the market to support the US's E-911 and Europe's E-112 mandates which require the position of a mobile phone to be made available to all emergency call dispatchers.
GPS enabled emergency devices such as the Laipac use Sarantel's GeoHelix? GPS antenna to provide stable reception in the harshest conditions including inside buildings and heavily wooded areas.
Sarantel antennas are omni-directional, which means that emergency tracking devices with the GPS antenna do not need a clear view of the sky for quality GPS reception. This eliminates the need to orient the device in order to achieve reliable performance, so even if a user were in a difficult position, i.e. lying on their back and unable to reach their phone, emergency services would still be able to locate their position.
While conventional antennas de-tune and lose efficiency when they come in contact with RF-absorbing materials like the user's hand or head, GeoHelix? GPS antennas stay on frequency regardless of how they are used.

  5. Location Based Services :
Location based services (LBS) are available to subscribers based on their current geographic location, which is received via GPS.
Business LBS applications are set to grow by nearly six-fold over the next six years as more put in place GPS and other location services for mobile resource management (MRM) and field force management (FFM). LBS is also paving the way for a host of consumer products, such as personal and pet trackers.
Sarantel customers have embedded the GeoHelix GPS antennas into a range of devices for businesses and personal use.
